West Chester, Ohio, USA; April 2022—As part of a recent campaign to demonstrate how neon colors available on the Ricoh Pro 72xx series presses can be used, Ricoh conducted a marketing campaign to showcase the neon colors available with their presses. Part of the campaign involved providing printed neon embellishment samples to creatives, agencies, corporate marketers, and print service providers. The neon envelope used to hold the actual Ricoh printed samples utilized both Ricoh Touch7 color guides for vector colors and Touch7 images prepared using the Touch7 Photo plugin for Photoshop. Discussing the campaign, Mark Geeves, Director of Sales and Marketing for Color-Logic, the worldwide distributor of Touch7 software, said: "Ricoh Europe reached out to Touch7 to create an envelope design that would make their sample envelope stand out from other marketing pieces these businesses receive. UK Magazine Print Solutions Becomes Pink Solutions with Help From Color-Logic Touch7 and Xerox

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— When the editor of UK printing industry magazine Print Solutions decided to devote the March 2021 issue to the fluorescent and neon inks available in the latest digital print engines, the Xerox Iridesse press, with its pink fluorescent dry ink, was called upon to print the front and back covers of the magazine--dubbed Pink Solutions for just this issue. The magazine cover, in striking pink tones, was printed on the Xerox Iridesse by adding fluorescent pink to the cover image and using Color-Logic Touch7 software to create the print files. To ensure the magazine cover would emphasize the fluorescent pink components of the stock image selected, Touch7 software was used to add the pink into the front cover image without the need to create an elaborate mask. The back cover of the magazine was used to demonstrate the versatility of Xerox dry pink ink with the Touch7 system by adding pink into parts of the image and extending the color gamut of the file, with the dry pink ink printed atop the CMY inks to create incredible orange colors and gradations.

Discussing the use of Touch7 with the Xerox Iridesse, Richard Ainge, Color-Logic CTO and developer of Touch7, said: "Traditionally, adding fluorescent pink to an image would require the time-consuming task of making a mask. The more intricate the image, the more difficult that becomes. And even once the mask is available, adding pink to the image necessitates removing C, M, or Y colors to get the exact tonal effect desired. Even for an experienced Photoshop operator, these are not simple tasks. With just a few clicks of the mouse, however, Touch7 compensates for the addition of the pink and prepares the proper separations automatically."

Color-Logic Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Geeves, also commenting on the project, said: "In today's fast-turnaround print market, the time required to properly prepare images for print can easily spell the difference between profit and loss for the press owner. Touch7 takes the guesswork out of file preparation involving the fifth colors available on the latest equipment. Without Touch7, designing with fluorescent inks often becomes prohibitively expensive."

Touch7 Neon Color Guides Used to Digitally Print 2021 Fedrigoni 365 Calendar Vector Art

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— Each year, Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni produces a 365-page calendar showcasing the work of UK designers on Fedrigoni papers. The 2021 calendar--a collaboration of Fedrigoni, London agency TM Media, and Ricoh--drew on the talents of nearly 1000 UK designers. To fully demonstrate the variability of digital printing, no two of the 4000 calendars produced are alike. To also demonstrate the capability of the Ricoh press on which the calendars were printed, each 2021 calendar page uses a fifth color. Because the Ricoh press features neon yellow and neon pink inks, TM Media used Touch7 Neon color guides to create individual page files and to specify how each was to be printed. Discussing the process, Color-Logic CTO Richard Ainge, who developed the Touch7 process, commented: "One of the first steps in design is choosing what colors to use. When Fedrigoni elected to use the Ricoh digital press with neon pink and neon yellow, they learned about the Touch7 Neon system. The Touch7 color guides used for the project were printed under license by Ricoh Europe, and demonstrated to Fedrigoni and TM Media the more than 1500 colors they could possibly use. The Touch7 Neon system not only enabled the production of colors the world had never seen before, but created blends of those neon colors in seconds."

New Touch7 Neon Color Guides Simplify Use of Neon Inks in Digital Printers

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— New Touch7 Neon Color Guides are now available that simplify use by graphic designers of the neon and fluorescent inks being offered by various print engine manufacturers. Until now, graphic designers preparing files for use with the new neon inks have been confined to commercially available guides that were produced using offset lithography. When designers attempt to use these analog color guides in digital print, however, the resulting print is often disappointing. This means lengthy trial-and-error procedures when attempting to design for the latest digital print engines. Because inks vary among print engine manufacturers, theTouch7 Color Guides are produced and sold only by the printer manufacturers, for use only with their machines. Discussing the new Touch7 Neon Color Guides, Richard Ainge, developer of the Touch7 process, said: "Touch7 Neon Color Guides are printed by Color-Logic partners that manufacture digital print engines, and thus reflect exactly what can be expected when using the substrate on which the guide was printed. Graphic designers will be amazed at the time savings and predictability of their work when using the Touch7 software to prepare files for print. Their print customers will be equally amazed at the astounding color enhancements possible. The first Touch7 Neon Color Guides available are for pink and yellow neon and fluorescent colors on their digital presses. Touch7 provides print engine manufacturers with 760 colors for each neon color, in addition to the standard CMYK ink sets available. Touch7 Neon Color Guides help printers demonstrate and communicate to graphic designers the extended gamut of colors as well as the delicate pastels possible on digital presses, without the difficulty of trying to match colors seen in an offset-produced guide."

Color-Logic to Introduce Neon/Fluorescent Design Tool at Printing United 2019

West Chester, Ohio, USA; October 2019—At Printing United 2019, October 23-25 in Dallas, Texas, Color-Logic will release a new design tool enabling graphic designers and prepress personnel to prepare artwork files for the neon and fluorescent inks currently being introduced by several digital press and printer manufacturers. The Touch7 Photo NEON plugin is a powerful design tool that enables brands, designers, and printers to utilize these neon colors in their images. Brands are already using spot neon and fluorescent inks in packaging and signage worldwide, but Touch7 Photo NEON is the only separation tool that adds these colors into images within seconds.

Discussing the new tool, Touch7 developer and Color-Logic CTO Richard Ainge said: "Touch7 Photo NEON allows any designer or prepress operator to create neon/fluorescent separations with a few clicks of the mouse. The Touch7 Photo tool helps printers add extended gamut colors into images by printing the neon separation atop the CMYK ink set. By combining neon pink with CMYK, for example, printers can produce an entirely new set of oranges and reds for their brand clients, an effect previously unachievable using CMYK inks alone."

Ainge continued: "Touch7 Photo NEON works intelligently at the pixel level, automatically isolating and separating out only the cyan, magenta, and yellow components of the image. The final conversion adds as many as three additional neon or fluorescent spot colors to the original image format. For example, an RGB image that is converted using Touch7 Photo NEON will become an RGB image plus up to three neon or fluorescent spot colors. Touch7 Photo NEON does not require ICC profiles to extract the desired separations. The proprietary Touch7 NEON separation algorithms calculate the effect based on the original source pixels. Graphic designers unable to see the Touch7 Photo NEON tool at the Dallas show may download the software and test it free of charge at www.touch7.co."

New Touch7 Photo ECG Tool from Color-Logic

West Chester, Ohio, USA; October 2019—In booth 10564 at Printing United in Dallas, October 23-25, Color-Logic will introduce Touch7 Photo ECG, an Extended Color Gamut (ECG) tool that dramatically simplifies the use of Extended Color Gamut in the latest wide-format and digital presses.

Extended Color Gamut (ECG) inks are rapidly gaining popularity in the large format and packaging worlds, particularly when specifying corporate identity or spot colors beyond the CMYK color gamut. When brands want images to stand out, they use this extended gamut capability in images. Doing so requires someone to make a manual mask for each of the ECG inks being used.

Until now, achieving the desired intent of Extended Color Gamut required a skilled prepress operator or graphic designer to use trial and error. Adding ECG ink sets into images requires creating a separate mask for each ECG ink being used. Touch7 Photo ECG is a new Photoshop plugin that enables the designer or prepress operator to add one, two, or three ECG separations into an image in only a few seconds. Touch7 Photo ECG eliminates the need to create manual masks, thus any designer using Photoshop CC can do this kind of work.

In addition, Touch7 Photo ECG does not require ICC profiles to create the ECG separations, enabling designers to create, at the design stage, five-, six-, or seven-color separations and then send the file to prepress for production, where ICC color management is used to map the image to the ink set of the printer or press.

Designers unable to visit the Color-Logic booth at Printing United can install and test Touch7 Photo ECG for themselves by downloading the tool at www.touch7.co.

Ryerson Graphic Communications Management Assistant Professor Christopher Smyth also commented on the donation: "Color-Logic's generous support provides Ryerson students with an excellent opportunity to develop hands-on knowledge and creativity with extended color gamut projects. Touch7 has a clear, user-friendly interface which, together with the ability to adjust and custom the results, makes it an excellent approach to projects using fixed inksets."

Color-Logic Chief Technical Officer Richard Ainge--co-founder of Color-Logic and developer of Touch7--also commenting on the donation, said: "Touch7 Photo ECG software enables graphic designers and prepress personnel to incorporate Extended Color Gamut ink sets into their images with a single mouse click within Adobe Photoshop. Unlike other Extended Color Gamut systems that use destination/press profiles to separate images, the Touch7 Photo ECG plugin works intelligently at the pixel level, automatically isolating and separating the desired touch plates for Extended Color Gamut printing. The final conversion adds as many as three additional spot colors to the designer's original image format. Touch7 Photo ECG does not require ICC profiles to extract Extended Color Gamut separations--the proprietary separation algorithms calculate the effect based on the original source information."

The Ryerson University School of Graphic Communications Management in Toronto offers the only four-year degree program in Canada that is focused on the printing and graphic communications industries. With a mixture of technical and business courses, as well as a focus on engagement with the industry, Ryerson students graduate with the necessary expertise to facilitate consumer product packaging, marketing materials, signage, and print media across Canada and around the world.

Touch7 adds Soft-Proofing for Accurately Viewing Extended Color Gamut, Targeting Digital Print

Leeds, England; November 2016Touch7, an Extended Colour Gamut system distributed by Color-Logic Inc, has announced that they will now offer Soft-Proofing™ capability to their clients. Discussing the Soft-Proofing product, Touch7’s Founder/CTO, Richard Ainge commented: “Touch7 takes just one mouse click inside of PhotoShop to produce up to a 7 color separation of an image. However, PhotoShop does not provide an accurate color representation of any separation with more than CMYK or RGB images. We are not a colour management company so we partnered with RemoteDirector to provide us with an OEM version of their technology.”   Mark Geeves, Director of Sales and Marketing for Touch7 commented: “We have targeted the digital press and printer markets with our Touch7 Soft-Proofing solution since people forget these presses are really production machines and there is a real need not to use them as proofing devices until the design is ready. If printers take 6 minutes of production time to produce 10 proofs a day then you have 1 hour of production time wasted. Touch7 creates an extended color gamut separation in seconds, which saves hours of manual masking and now with our Soft-Proofing solution, digital presses and printers are more productive as well.”
