Introducing the Visualis3R Layer Mapping Manager: Simplifying Global Print Embellishment Terminology
West Chester, Ohio, USA; April 2026 - Visualis3R, the innovative platform for digital print embellishments, has launched a comprehensive new feature addressing a common, yet seldom-discussed, real-world challenge: inconsistent naming conventions related to print embellishments. For example, what one designer calls “Spot UV” might be referred to as “Varnish,” “Lacquer,” or even “Lack." These variations—in both terminology and spelling—can create confusion and production errors if not handled correctly.
To solve this, Visualis3R includes a Layer Mapping Manager, a first-in-the-industry feature allowing users to map any incoming spot color, foil, varnish, or other finishing element, to the correct embellishment effect. Thus ensuring—regardless of the name the designer may have selected—consistency, accuracy, and flexibility across global workflows, without forcing designers into rigid naming standards. As embellishment standards are developed by the industry, any new standard terms can also be supported.
Explaining the Visualis3R Layer Mapping Manager, Mark Geeves, Director of Sales and Marketing for Color-Logic, the exclusive distributor of Visualis3R, said: “The many terms used in the industry to define colors and special embellishment finishes create confusion and inhibit the ability of designers to communicate their intent to personnel later in the print embellishment process. The Visualis3R Layer Mapping Manager now enables the designer to assign and document any name desired to a finish used in the embellishment process."
Geeves concluded: “Print embellishments are proven to increase engagement and perceived value in printed materials, but the workflows and terminologies to create embellishments are still in development. The new Visualis3R Label Mapping Manager provides a ready solution to the current confusion between graphic designer and printer prepress personnel. By using Visualis3R to define the terms used in developing embellishment files, much of that confusion is eliminated.”
