UK Magazine Print Solutions Becomes Pink Solutions with Help From Color-Logic Touch7 and Xerox

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— When the editor of UK printing industry magazine Print Solutions decided to devote the March 2021 issue to the fluorescent and neon inks available in the latest digital print engines, the Xerox Iridesse press, with its pink fluorescent dry ink, was called upon to print the front and back covers of the magazine--dubbed Pink Solutions for just this issue. The magazine cover, in striking pink tones, was printed on the Xerox Iridesse by adding fluorescent pink to the cover image and using Color-Logic Touch7 software to create the print files. To ensure the magazine cover would emphasize the fluorescent pink components of the stock image selected, Touch7 software was used to add the pink into the front cover image without the need to create an elaborate mask. The back cover of the magazine was used to demonstrate the versatility of Xerox dry pink ink with the Touch7 system by adding pink into parts of the image and extending the color gamut of the file, with the dry pink ink printed atop the CMY inks to create incredible orange colors and gradations.

Discussing the use of Touch7 with the Xerox Iridesse, Richard Ainge, Color-Logic CTO and developer of Touch7, said: "Traditionally, adding fluorescent pink to an image would require the time-consuming task of making a mask. The more intricate the image, the more difficult that becomes. And even once the mask is available, adding pink to the image necessitates removing C, M, or Y colors to get the exact tonal effect desired. Even for an experienced Photoshop operator, these are not simple tasks. With just a few clicks of the mouse, however, Touch7 compensates for the addition of the pink and prepares the proper separations automatically."

Color-Logic Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Geeves, also commenting on the project, said: "In today's fast-turnaround print market, the time required to properly prepare images for print can easily spell the difference between profit and loss for the press owner. Touch7 takes the guesswork out of file preparation involving the fifth colors available on the latest equipment. Without Touch7, designing with fluorescent inks often becomes prohibitively expensive."

Commenting on the certification, Mark Geeves, Color-Logic Director of Sales and Marketing, said: "The HP Latex 700 W and 800 W--two machines with the white ink necessary for producing Color-Logic metallics--provide a ready solution for customers interested in using metallic substrates on the latest, printer with water-based ink available."

Geeves continues: "The HP Latex 700 W and 800 W printers produced outstanding Color-Logic certification test sheets, and are appropriate for label and package proofing, as well as short-run production of these items, signage, and point-of-sales materials. The white ink available on these new machines when using metallic substrate enables users to create incredible embellishments particularly appropriate for higher margin and higher value applications. Touch7 Neon Color Guides Used to Digitally Print 2021 Fedrigoni 365 Calendar Vector Art

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— Each year, Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni produces a 365-page calendar showcasing the work of UK designers on Fedrigoni papers. The 2021 calendar--a collaboration of Fedrigoni, London agency TM Media, and Ricoh--drew on the talents of nearly 1000 UK designers. To fully demonstrate the variability of digital printing, no two of the 4000 calendars produced are alike. To also demonstrate the capability of the Ricoh press on which the calendars were printed, each 2021 calendar page uses a fifth color. Because the Ricoh press features neon yellow and neon pink inks, TM Media used Touch7 Neon color guides to create individual page files and to specify how each was to be printed. Discussing the process, Color-Logic CTO Richard Ainge, who developed the Touch7 process, commented: "One of the first steps in design is choosing what colors to use. When Fedrigoni elected to use the Ricoh digital press with neon pink and neon yellow, they learned about the Touch7 Neon system. The Touch7 color guides used for the project were printed under license by Ricoh Europe, and demonstrated to Fedrigoni and TM Media the more than 1500 colors they could possibly use. The Touch7 Neon system not only enabled the production of colors the world had never seen before, but created blends of those neon colors in seconds."

New Touch7 Neon Color Guides Simplify Use of Neon Inks in Digital Printers

West Chester, Ohio, USA; March 2021— New Touch7 Neon Color Guides are now available that simplify use by graphic designers of the neon and fluorescent inks being offered by various print engine manufacturers. Until now, graphic designers preparing files for use with the new neon inks have been confined to commercially available guides that were produced using offset lithography. When designers attempt to use these analog color guides in digital print, however, the resulting print is often disappointing. This means lengthy trial-and-error procedures when attempting to design for the latest digital print engines. Because inks vary among print engine manufacturers, theTouch7 Color Guides are produced and sold only by the printer manufacturers, for use only with their machines. Discussing the new Touch7 Neon Color Guides, Richard Ainge, developer of the Touch7 process, said: "Touch7 Neon Color Guides are printed by Color-Logic partners that manufacture digital print engines, and thus reflect exactly what can be expected when using the substrate on which the guide was printed. Graphic designers will be amazed at the time savings and predictability of their work when using the Touch7 software to prepare files for print. Their print customers will be equally amazed at the astounding color enhancements possible. The first Touch7 Neon Color Guides available are for pink and yellow neon and fluorescent colors on their digital presses. Touch7 provides print engine manufacturers with 760 colors for each neon color, in addition to the standard CMYK ink sets available. Touch7 Neon Color Guides help printers demonstrate and communicate to graphic designers the extended gamut of colors as well as the delicate pastels possible on digital presses, without the difficulty of trying to match colors seen in an offset-produced guide."
